How to break in new brake pads

When the new brake pads are replaced, they must be worn in with the brake discs to have the best braking effect. The reason is that the texture of the new brake pads is different from that of the brake disc. If the textures of the two sides do not match, the contact surface between the two sides will be reduced, and the source of friction will be reduced.

Running-in brake pads must be carried out under a safe condition with sparse traffic. In particular, there must be no other vehicles trailing behind.

Apply the brakes gently at low speeds first to allow the pads and rotors to heat up evenly. Then increase the speed to a certain level, and in a safe situation (there is no vehicle behind), apply a hard brake that can be handled within the range of personal skills. Slow down the speed suddenly to below 20km/h, then increase the speed again, and repeat the previous action.

The purpose of doing this is to melt the brake pads into a thin layer of sintered matter attached to the brake disc, so that the texture of the brake pads and brake discs match. To make this layer of sintered material uniform and beautiful, the car should not be stopped when repeated sudden braking actions during bed-in, and the sintered material melted from the brake pads will accumulate unevenly on the force disc.

Repeat this action more than five times, or you can stop when you feel that the braking response starts to become sluggish. At this time, you should no longer apply any brakes, and continue to sail at high speed for more than ten minutes, let the brake pads and brake discs cool down, and fix this layer of sintered matter

The most unavoidable cost of riding a motorcycle is tire replacement and brake system maintenance. What shock absorbers, titanium rulers, exhaust pipes are just icing on the cake. If you don't replace it when it's due, you can drive it a little slower at most. But the tires and braking system are important factors related to life safety.
